Celebrate Earth Day

Everyone is invited to celebrate Earth Day on Monday, April 22nd by helping clean-up the Eaton Elementary grounds. This is a great time to spend with your children, while also beautifying our school. Kids really feel proud of themselves when they give back and can look at their school and say WOW, I helped do that! So come on out on Monday and bring your gardening tools to beautify our school and teach our kids that Earth Day is Everyday and we can make a difference. Meet under the breezeway on Monday to get down and dirty and clean up OUR SCHOOL!

Belize School Supplies

Eaton’s student interns from UNCW will be traveling to San Pedro, Belize at the end of March to finish their student teaching in local schools there. They are in need of school supplies to take with them for the children in San Pedro, as the schools they will be working in have very limited resources. Soccer Cleats Collection

Eaton is participating with the New Hanover PTA Council in teaming up with Cape Fear Soccer Club’s Pass-Along Cleat Wellness Project “Give From Your Heart” to collect used soccer cleats so area kids can be active in soccer this spring or as part of an after school outreach program.

This collection will run until the end of February. A donations box is located outside the main office by the bulletin board.

Please donate your used soccer cleats to this worthy cause! Thank you!

Head Lice Prevention in Classrooms

Here are a few tips to help prevent the spread of head lice within the classroom:

1. Remind children not to share combs, brushes, hair accessories, headphones, hats, clothing, bedding, coats and so forth.

2. Space desks and chairs apart so that children are not sitting shoulder-to-shoulder.

3. Coats and hats should not touch each other. If hooks are too close together, or individual cubbies are unavailable, individual laundry bags with drawstrings can be used to store coats and hats.

4. Space children apart when standing or walking in lines.

5. Minimize close contact games and sports, such as wrestling.

6. Minimize use of shared headgear (such as earphones, helmets, etc.) and clothing (such as hats and costumes in drama classes).

NHCS has decided to participate in a national online research project called Speak Up, designed to gather feedback on how technology is used at school and at home. Speak Up, a project facilitated by Project Tomorrow®, gives individuals the opportunity to share their viewpoints about key educational issues. Each year, findings are summarized and shared with national and state policy makers.
